Belize

Belize is a beautiful country in Central America, renowned for its beaches, eco-lodges and scuba diving and is located on the eastern coast of Central America, with Caribbean shorelines to the east and dense jungle to the west. Offshore is the expanse Belize Barrier Reef teeming with marine life. The jungle areas are rich with Mayan ruins.

Belize is the only country in Central America whose official language is English, though Belizean Creole and Spanish are also commonly spoken. Belize is bordered on the north by Mexico, on the south and west by Guatemala, and on the east by the Caribbean Sea.

The country is 176 miles long at its longest point, 88 miles at its widest point and covers 8,867 square miles, including 266 square miles of offshore islands.

The overall climate of Belize can be described as sub-tropical. The humidity while high, is seldom oppressive for long and is most noticeable along the coast. The mean annual humidity is 83%, but many days the humidity is masked by the cooling sea breezes.

During the day temperatures are around 30 degrees Celsius. Minimum temperatures are 20-24 degrees Celsius. During the winter, which is the dry period in Belize (November to April) temperatures are a little lower at 27-28 degrees Celsius. During the summer temperatures are about 31 degrees Celsius on average. In the interior temperatures may be a little higher (35-36 degrees Celsius) in the warmest places in Belize. The highest places in the Maya mountain range are a little colder than in the rest of Belize.
