Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is a small island nation south of India and is a land brimming with rainforests, diverse wildlife and endless beaches. This beautiful island boasts an incredible diversity in its landscape, from pristine beaches to spectacular rainforests and wildlife, as well as ancient ruins – little wonder it is becoming a must visit destination.

With a history expanding over 3000 years, Sri Lanka has some of world’s ancient cities including Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Digamadulla.

Of all the ancient cities of Lanka, the most famed and most exquisite is the Kingdom of Anuradhapura. Sri Lanka’s third and the longest serving capital and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world is also one of the most sacred cities of World Buddhists.

Sigiriya is a must see – a fifth century AD fortress and a water garden displays some of the most futuristic elements of landscaping and some of the oldest murals recorded in the country. Sigiriya offers some of the most captivating views of the whole island.

Sri Lanka is also famed for its beaches – with nearly 1600 km of of palm fringed Coastline, Sri Lanka is the ideal destination for beach lovers. Whether you prefer windsurfing, kayaking, yachting, water skiing, scuba diving or simply relaxing and enjoying the views, Sri Lanka offers it all.

Sri Lanka is a year-round holiday destination -You just have to know which side of the island to focus on in any given month.

The south-western monsoon brings rain to the south-west of Sri Lanka between May and September, while the dry season in this region runs from December to March. In the north and eastern coastal regions of the country, the weather is influenced by the north-eastern monsoon, which brings wind and rain between October and January, and dryer weather between May and September.

There is also an inter-monsoonal period during October and the first half of November, when rain and thunderstorms can occur across the island. This clears up as December nears, with conditions getting balmier by the day during the second half of November.

The period from December to mid-April is considered the peak season for overall weather and therefore overall visitor numbers.
