Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi is fast becoming a must see destination for holidays thanks to its impressive range of luxury hotels and world class attractions. Abu Dhabi actually means “Land of the Gazelle” in Arabic and was founded when a young antelope led a wandering tribe to fresh water, on an island with no more than 300 palm (‘barasti’) huts, a few coral buildings and the Ruler’s fort. Today this simple island settlement has since been transformed into the modern, cosmopolitan city of Abu Dhabi and the high-rise capital of the United Arab Emirates.

There are many popular areas of the Emirate, including Yas Island, Sir Bani Yas Island, Saadiyat Island, The Corniche and the city centre.

Guests can enjoy seeing the Yas Marina Circuit on Yas Island – home to the annual Formula 1 Grand Prix and have a coffee at the iconic Yas Viceroy – the world’s only hotel to straddle an F1 race track. Another popular attraction is Ferrari World – home to the world’s fastest roller coaster or the Yas Waterworld has a range of fun and exciting water slides.

Shopping has become a popular pastime thanks to it’s diversity of products available and it is tax free – tourists can discover everything from luxurious and modern malls with all the latest designer brands to the small souk-like shops which offer traditional perfumes and handicrafts.

Ten minutes from downtown Abu Dhabi is the stunning island of Saadiyat which is undergoing a transformation to become a world class leisure destination with the finest hotels as well as housing the world’s largest single concentration of premier cultural assets including the Zayed National Museum, Louvre Abu Dhabi and Guggenheim Abu Dhabi.

A must-see destination for nature enthusiasts or those looking for the ultimate escape is Sir Bani Yas Island – an island teeming with wildlife and adventure activities with a selection of five-star rooms and villas.

Please be reminded that the majority of local people in Abu Dhabi are Muslim and Ramadan is the month of fasting when Muslims abstain from all food, drinks and smoking from dawn to dusk. As a sign of respect, visitors are also requested to refrain from consuming these items in public places during the daylight hours of this month

DINING, BARS AND NIGHTLIFE

All hotels boast top class dining venues with first class cuisine from Asian to local to International cuisine. Hotels also have a wide selection of bars and clubs. Alcohol is only served in establishments that have licences such as hotel restaurants and bars.
