Mainland Greece forms the southernmost part of the Balkan peninsula with two additional smaller peninsulas projecting from it: the Chalkidiki and the Peloponnese.
The main gateways are Athens and Thessaloniki. Athens’ is famed for its Acropolis and down-to-earth nightlife and Thessaloniki’s has a more laid-back seafront vibe.
A popular destination for tourists is Porto Heli – a summer resort town in the municipality of Ermionida in the southeastern part of Argolis, Greece. It is situated on a bay of the Argolic Gulf, 6 km south of Kranidi and 40 km southeast of Nafplio. This port is a frequent mooring place for fishing boats and yachts in summer, giving to Porto Heli in Greece a cosmopolitan atmosphere. There are a couple of organised beaches in Porto Heli, but the majority are small secluded coves with a relaxing atmosphere.
