Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is one incredible Caribbean destination with 32 islands to choose from, spread over 150 square miles of azure seas. Most of the country’s land territory consists of the main island of Saint Vincent. This volcanic island is the place for eco adventures in its lush rainforests, scuba diving and the place to meet friendly locals in the capital – and main port of the island nation – Kingstown.
The rest of the country is spread over the northern two-thirds of the Grenadines – a paradise of white sand beaches, coral reefs and turquoise lagoons. Bequia is the perfect place to begin a sailing adventure from the historic Port Elizabeth – but there’s also fantastic scuba diving, beautiful white sandy beaches and a turtle sanctuary, so you’ll be tempted to stay longer. Famous as a royal retreat, Mustique is a beguiling island of elegance, luxury and indulgence – whether that means a night at Basil’s Bar or relaxing on your own deserted beach.
The southern islands of the Grenadines – Canouan, Mayreau, Union Island, Palm Island, and Petit St Vincent – have their own charms and exclusive attractions. Tobago Cays is a marine park east of Mayreau with five tiny islands, sheltered lagoons and coral reefs. From private island hideaways to old-world Caribbean experiences, there’s an island escape in St Vincent and the Grenadines to suit everyone’s tastes.
St Vincent & The Grenadines are located in the Lesser Antilles, the southern portion of the Windward Islands in the south east Caribbean Sea. Virgin Atlantic will be flying direct to St Vincent from June 2021 and other connections run via Barbados, Antigua or the USA and depart from London, Newcastle, Glasgow and Manchester.
One of the more densely populated Caribbean countries, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is home to around 120,000 people and there is a lively culture to experience, as well as French and British colonial history.
Much of St Vincent and the Grenadine’s nightlife is centered around hotels and resorts; probably the most famous nightspot you’ll find is Basil’s Bar on Mustique. For gourmets, try the national dish – roasted breadfruit and fried jackfish – at least once, and sample the locally produced Hairoun beer or Sunset Rum before you leave.
