Majorca

This holiday icon is the largest of the beautiful Balearic Islands and is famed for its postcard-perfect coastline dotted with photogenic beach resorts and pretty fishing villages. Of late, Majorca has had something of a cultural revolution, with discerning visitors finding increasingly cultured beach resorts and quaint countryside towns awaiting them.

Covering an area six times larger than neighbouring Ibiza, it’s no surprise that there’s a huge variety of activities and pursuits to enjoy on this family-friendly island. From exhilarating waterparks to sea surfing, and from horse riding to coastal cycling, you’ll find plenty to keep you active. Looking to relax instead? Well, Majorca also has miles of café-fronted promenades, new and exciting restaurants, designer shopping and much more besides. With an increasing effort to share the island’s authentic side, you’ll be able to discover the perfect destination from which to enjoy a luxury villa escape.

The island is mainly populated along its 550-kilometre coastline, with rolling plains, jagged mountains and a smattering of terracotta towns hidden away inland. There are beautiful beaches all around the island, with Playa de Muro and Playa de Alcudia standing out to the north of Majorca, and Platja d’es Carbo and Playa De S’amarador to the south

The north coast of the island is perhaps its most appealing region, rich with pure sand beaches, charming towns and a laid-back vibe. Take a step back in time and visit the charming town of Pollensa, where cobbled streets with pastel-shaded houses and traditional Spanish restaurants overlook a vibrant boat-filled harbour that’s perfect for a slow sunset walk. Or dash along the coast to bustling Port d’Alcudia for a more modern take, with cosmopolitan bars, varied shopping and a family-friendly sweep of sandy beach. And not too far away, you’ll find the famous Port Soller, home to an eclectic mix of colourful waterfront buildings and a buzzy yacht marina all sheltered by a dramatic natural harbour.

Head down south, and you’ll find the island’s much-touted capital city of Palma. This golden-stoned metropolis stretches luxuriously along a sun-soaked coastline, with the majestic Palma Cathedral at the centre of the city front. In the labyrinthine streets surrounding this spectacular building, you’ll discover a mesmerising array of global designer shops, Spanish boutiques, and plenty of pavement cafes where you can stop for a refreshing glass of Sangria.

When it comes to getting around, while car hire is recommended, you’ll be able to use the island’s extensive bus and rail network, giving you added options for sightseeing. With a roster of already-popular beach resorts complimented by a wave of new restaurants, bars and villas, you’ll find this Balearic belle to be an excellent luxury villa destination.
