Crete

Crete is Greece’s largest island and renowned for its terrain, from pristine sandy beaches, the white mountains and and its rugged interior blanketed in olive groves and wild flowers.

As well as the abundance of beautiful beaches and pebble coves, the stunning island of Crete can offer so much more – brimming with majestic mountains, gorges to hike, plains to see and curving coastlines to drive – there’s a plethora of things to do in Crete.

Being the largest island, there are of course many areas to choose from. Heraklion is the largest city and the administrative capital of the island of Crete and has an abundance of bars and restaurants. So if you are looking for a vibrant nightlife then Heraklion on the north of Crete would be the perfect choice.

An hour west of Heraklion is the popular and picturesque Agios Nikolaos with a bustling small harbour, a lake with quaint lakeside tavernas and cafés and coves with pebble beaches.

Elounda is just north of Agios Nikolaos and has a wonderful scenic location being opposite Spinalonga Island. Elounda has become more popular thanks to the balance between an authentic Greek town and a modern lively town. The vibrant square is a great place to enjoy a coffee and take in the views of the lagoon harbour and man-made sandy beach.

Chania is another vibrant and lively town and is located on the island’ north west coast and is Crete’s second largest city although is not as renowned for its beaches as the other towns are. But it boasts an abundance of history and heritage and is popular with culture seekers.
